Alternative Energy contd..
There is no alternative to oil. None.
However, most people continue to cling to the conforting notion that ‘technology’ will save their souls.
Idiots. The writing is on the wall. The world passed Production Peak in 2005. Since then, Saudi Arabia has continually declined @ 4.5% per year. This year’s data [TOD.com] indicates 7% declines.
Kehabab and Jeffery Brown have a paper up somewhere on the net that posits that net exports will decline to zero in 2035. The key to this riddle is domestic consumption in Exporting Countries. They call it the Export Land model. I have no frigging clue as to why the sane hell in the world this name was chosen, but it basically means, that as the domestic consumption in exporting countries increase,s their exports fall. Of course !
Meanwhile, here in India, all the so called ‘educated middle class’ is gaa-gaa over signing of the nuhclear deal with USA. My heart bleeds for my guillible countrymen. What a shame. They dont realize that none of these reactors that USA is promising, will ever be built, EVER.
The whole nuclear deal is nothing but thinly disguised propaganda to create reasonably large number of jobs in USA, and to offset some of China’s nuclear power status. No wonder the indian ‘Left’ is against the deal.
Here is why this ‘deal’ sucks.
1) Thermodynamics – inspite of massive trolling i have not been able to find any peer reviewed data on the EROI of nuclear. None. Only anecdotal evidence. My suspicion is that the EROI of nuclear is below 5. That means it is not a viable source of energy at all. The energy that goes into Enrichment of ore is the same energy that comes out in fission. Almost. So i have huge doubts on the viablity of nuclear.
The REAL reason nations build reactors is because they want to make bombs. Civilian power generation is a fake show that is put up on the side.
2) Ore- most of the rich U235 ore is gone. Finsihed. Just like oil, U235 also follows its own Hubert curve. I think we are past peak there too. This means we will not get reactor fuel easily. Huge problem.
3) Spent fuel - no one knows what the hell we will do as a society with spent fuel from old reactors. Dimitry Orlov says that this could be a threat, possibly wielded as a weapon to terrorize populations post collapse.
4) Construction time scales. It takes 10 yrs for a reactor to commission after grondbreaking. 10 years. Ever wondered what the oil situation will be 10 yrs from now ? We may not have the infra to move all those reactor parts, which are all moved using fossil fuels.
amen
